MobilityWorks of Albany: Active in the Community

Over the past few weeks our general manager Dean Pells and his team in Albany have been very busy! Earlier this month they hosted a group of almost 40 students from Sage College who are studying Occupational Therapy for a training session. They also attended and sponsored a dinner recognizing the best personal assistants in the Albany area.

Sage College has been visiting MobilityWorks for nearly 20 years. These future Occupational Therapists get a chance to see  first hand how the equipment and vehicles can change the lives of people with mobility challenges. They also get to hear from local Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialists, many of whom are occupational therapists themselves. Bill LaChapelle, one of MobilityWorks most experienced Certified Mobility Consultants, led the class that these students actually earned credits for. Bill showed them everything from lowered floor accessible minivans to to wheelchair securement. There was also a heavy focus on funding requirements and how Medicaid and 3rd party funding works.

A few evenings later Dean Pells and Ron Wilson attended the Consumer Directed Choices banquet dinner.  Their organization assists hundreds of families and individuals in the Albany area and surrounding counties. The non profit organization helps their clients with anything regarding medical and personal care. Ron’s wife Margie works for the CDC and enjoys getting to help those in need of a little help and support.

Dean was very excited to help support a great cause and states, “We have become greatly involved, because of our connection with many mutual clients of both the CDC and MobilityWorks. As such, we wanted to support an organization that greatly helps our community which we know and love.”

In just a few weeks the team will be back at it again with an exhibit at the Albany Auto Show!
