Determination and Two Solutions Help Gain Independence

In February of 2023, Janae Edmonson, an aspiring 17-year-old volleyball player, was involved in an accident that resulted in the amputation of both her legs and 29 surgeries. Despite this, she was determined to attend college the following September at MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN. To maintain her independence, Janae reached out to MobilityWorks of Nashville to find a solution and install hand controls in her Dodge Charger. However, the challenge she faced was getting to her classes on the other side of the campus in a timely fashion.

In October of the same year, Janae was recognized as the Guest of Honor at the 1st Annual MobilityWorks Expo in Nashville. It was there that she discovered the Pursuit 2 Power Chair by Pride Mobility. After a test drive, Janae fell in love with the power chair and decided to purchase it. Now, Janae can be seen using her power chair to move around the MTSU campus, from class to class or on her way to the gym for volleyball practice where she serves as the team manager. Her mother, Francine Edmondson, expressed her gratitude for the difference this power chair has made in Janae’s life, stating that “It has given her so much of her independence.” MobilityWorks of Nashville is proud to have helped Janae regain her independence and is looking forward to a long-lasting relationship with her and her family helping her “be there” for life’s important events.
