Driving Change: How ‘Scarlett’ Is Helping Ali Live Life Without Limits

For the first time in 18 years, advocate and speaker Ali Ingersoll has a brand-new wheelchair accessible van. Her bright red Chrysler Pacifica, nicknamed Scarlett, was converted by Driverge Vehicle Innovations and delivered by MobilityWorks in Raleigh. To Ali, it means much more than transportation — it means freedom.

Ali’s journey to this moment has been filled with both challenges and strength. After a spinal cord injury in 2010, she spent years learning to navigate healthcare and accessibility barriers. That experience led her to become a strong voice for people with disabilities across the country.

“My accessible vehicle has transformed my life in every single way,” Ali said. “Not only can I go to doctor’s appointments or out to lunch with friends, but I can drive across the country to keynote speeches, corporate clients, and advocacy events. Mobility for my daily life is an absolute must.”

Ali calls Scarlett her independence. The van allows her to keep working, mentoring, and helping others find their own freedom.

“This van is independence. It’s freedom. It’s me being able to live my life, and helping others get the independence they need as well.”

MobilityWorks is honored to play a role in Ali’s story.

“Ali has such a powerful voice and story,” said Eric Mansfield, President of MobilityWorks. “Today isn’t just about a delivery. It’s about independence, choice, and what it really means to be there.”

Charles Ellis, General Manager of MobilityWorks Raleigh, shared, “This is more than just a vehicle. It’s about expanding what mobility means and creating a sense of freedom and adventure.”

Scarlett is more than a van. For Ali, she represents the opportunity to travel freely and continue making a difference. Ali’s story is a reminder that mobility changes lives by opening the door to independence, community and hope.
