MobilityWorks Merger with Ride Away and Mobility Freedom Combines Ownership of 57 Dealer Locations in 21 States

MobilityWorks acquires hasco's ride away and mobility freedom

MobilityWorks made a stunning announcement last Friday with the revelation that they were going to merge with HASCO, the parent company of Ride Away and Mobility Freedom wheelchair van dealerships. The move significantly increases MobilityWorks’ presence along the East Coast where Ride Away has most of its locations, including the states of CT, FL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, PA, TX, VA, and VT. Mobility Freedom has six locations, all in the state of Florida.

With MobilityWorks’ current 35 showrooms and the new Ride Away and Mobility Freedom stores, the combined companies will have 57 locations in 21 states. Link to PR Newswire press release.

While MobilityWorks and Ride Away have been strong competitors for many years in a few metro areas, they share a mutual respect for each other and a passion for helping people with disabilities to be more independent.

“The people who make up MobilityWorks, Ride Away, and Mobility Freedom are the most caring and trusted professionals in the industry,” said Bill Koeblitz, President/CEO of MobilityWorks.

“We know the HASCO staff truly cares about their clients, and they will be a great fit within our culture and in our quest to help as many people as possible.”

In addition to selling new and used wheelchair vans, each of the companies also rents accessible vans, installs adaptive equipment (such as hand controls and scooter lifts), and works with local community groups on disability awareness issues.

Both Ride Away and Mobility Freedom have had a great history and reputation with their clients. No specific date has been discussed for merging the brands.  HASCO Medical, Inc., located in Dallas, TX, is a publicly traded company and therefore the merger is subject to all applicable SEC federal securities laws and filings.

Founded in 1997 with one location, MobilityWorks has been recognized on the Inc. 500|5000 list of Inc. Magazine’s fastest growing privately held companies for the past eight years. The Commercial Division, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, is the largest converter of full-size wheelchair vans in the country and Ford Motor Company’s largest mobility upfitter.

A custom aero cover for the truck bed was created for The Patriot by BAT Industry. The American Eagle and flag art theme was created by Ryan Ryno Templeton who has been featured on popular television shows such as Car Warriors, West Coast Customs, and Trick My Truck.

The MobilityWorks Foundation is once again auctioning “The Patriot”, its one-of-a-kind 2014 Ford Raptor created West Coast Customs. Thanks to an anonymous donor at the Mecum auction held in September in Dallas, TX, The Patriot was donated back to the foundation. Since then, it has been on display throughout the country at a variety of special events and parades honoring our nation’s veterans. The custom vehicle will be auctioned (now for the second time) on Saturday, May 16th with proceeds from the sale going to benefit disabled veterans.

Read the full Press Release here.

The transformed 2014 Ford Raptor, aptly named, “The Patriot,” features a spectacular American flag custom paint job, courtesy of West Coast Customs and Ryan Ryno Templeton. This automotive and art masterpiece also has interior embroidery representing each branch of the United States military.

In addition to West Cost Customs, several other sponsors also made this custom build possible, including: MobilityWorks; BraunAbility; Magnaflow; Bully Dog; LM Tire & Wheel; Indianapolis Dent Company; and BDS Suspension. Since the first auction in September, an additional enhancement was made by BAT Industries. A custom aero cover was fabricated by BAT and then painted by Ryan Ryno Templeton to match the original theme of the vehicle. For more information on BAT, go to www.batindustry.com.

Proceeds from the sale of The Patriot will go to The MobilityWorks Foundation to support their efforts in helping deserving veterans and local organizations that provide assistance to our wounded heroes with wheelchair-accessible transportation, training, housing and other services. There is no reserve on this auction, designated as lot #S10.

The Mecum Indianapolis 2000 Vehicle Auction will air live on NBCSN May 14-17 at various times. Check your cable provider listings for specific air times.
