The Wheelchair Mommy

Priscilla Hedlin, also known as “The Wheelchair Mommy” has been blogging about her life for over 15 years. She documents her everyday life in Pflugerville a small suburb of Austin, TX and talks about what life is like raising three young boys. Her blog covers a little bit of everything from skydiving and purchasing a sailboat, to dealing with family hardships.

In the fall of 1999, Priscilla was in a car accident and suffered a spinal cord injury. While recovering in the hospital, one of her nurses gave Priscilla a book titled “Joni: An Unforgettable Story” by Joni Eareckson Tada. After reading it, Priscilla realized for the first time that she wanted to document her life, and soon setup a website to share her stories. In the beginning, the blog was mostly about her life and recovering from the spinal cord injury. She then began writing more about her husband, children and their adventures.

So far 2017 has been a busy year for the Hedlin family! It started with a relaxing trip to Puerto Rico and most recently they began construction on a pool at their home. The boys returned to public school this fall after several years of home schooling, and are all involved in extracurricular activities. This month marked the 18th anniversary of Priscilla’s car accident, and she states in the blog that she is currently the happiest she has ever been.

Another big piece of The Wheelchair Mommy blog and Priscilla’s life is fashion. She recently put together a “Fall Capsule” that highlights recent styles and trends through several photos. Earlier this year, Priscilla did a spring cleaning on her closet and gives great advice and tips for cutting back. She also occasionally writes fashion tip blogs specifically for women in wheelchairs. Priscilla’s blogs on topics such as fashion, home and health are meant to inspire others to find new ideas in their own lives. A common theme in her writing is to never let being in a wheelchair stop you from doing anything you desire.

In addition to the blog, Priscilla likes to stay active on social media. You can keep up with her on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Visit www.wheelchairmommy.com to find out more about Priscilla and her family.
