This year the contest closed with 928 Local Hero entries, which received a total of 1.1 million votes. These wheelchair accessible vans were sponsored by FCA US LLC, Toyota Mobility, and American Honda Motor Corporation, with conversions donated by Vantage Mobility International (VMI), BraunAbility, and ElDorado Mobility.

Three brand new wheelchair vans will be given away as part of the awareness program! One will be awarded to a caregiver, one to a senior (60+), and one in the general category.
Cynthia Noonan, a 2015 National Mobility Awareness Month contest winner, received the keys to her new Vantage Mobility International (VMI) Honda Odyssey wheelchair van on January 14, 2016. Our Oakland team members were proud to help Cynthia regain her independence.
In September 2007, Cynthia became a C5 quadriplegic in just 4 hours due to a rare condition called Transverse Myelitis. Cynthia previously worked with the ALS Association and she now serves as a board member with the Bay Area Outreach and Recreational Program. Cynthia’s wheelchair van will allow her to continue her contributions to the community. Contra Costa Times and other media outlets were on hand to photograph and film Cynthia’s van presentation.
