There are two general styles of handicap van rentals that we offer our clients.
Hands down, the most popular of these conversions is the Side-Entry Lowered Floor Minivan. That is why these conversions make up over 95% of our rental fleet
Consider these questions to determine the best fit for your needs:
Knowing the dimensions of your wheelchair or scooter is critical to the selection process. Before you call us, please take a moment to measure:
HEIGHT: Measure from the floor to the top of the wheelchair user's head while sitting in their chair or scooter.
LENGTH: Measure the wheelchair or scooter from front to back, taking into account the user's feet and footrests, baskets, medical equipment, and any other protrusions.
WIDTH: Measure the wheelchair from side to side at the widest point, paying attention to arm rests or other protrusions above floor level.
WEIGHT: What is the combined weight of the wheelchair or scooter and the user?
There are various models of Side-Entry Lowered Floor minivans. The side door opening height range from 52" to 56 1/2". The interior height ranges from 57" to 61". The ramp width is normally 29.25" wide. The conversions will accommodate a chair length of 45" to 57" behind the front seats, and adding an additional 30"+ if we remove the front passenger seat. Most ramps will accommodate up to 800 lbs.
Other things to consider:
A Side-Entry Lowered Floor minivan will work in most cases. A MobilityWorks Rental Specialist will be happy to consult with you and to suggest a wheelchair van rental to best suit your needs.
