Though there are many challenges that someone with limited mobility may face, new technologies are constantly coming out that make transportation easier and safer. So many incredible products have come out in the last few years, and we are excited to see what the future holds. Below are 10 innovative products designed to increase people’s mobility.

  1. Trexo Robotics
After learning that his nephew Praneit would not be able to walk due to cerebral palsy, Manmeet Maggu sought to create a solution. While exoskeleton-like devices have existed for a while, they were only for adults, leaving behind countless children with mobility difficulties. As a result, Manmeet and his friend Rahul put their robotics degrees to incredible use by creating this product, specifically designed to give children with various conditions the opportunity to walk.
  2. Action Trackchair
Tim Swenson began developing an all-terrain wheelchair after decades in the recreational motor sport business. He and his wife have a son and friends in a chair, who they knew could benefit from a versatile chair that would allow them to easily participate in their favorite outdoor activities. They have multiple models of all-terrain wheelchairs, including standing chairs and models for children.
  3. Rowheels
Rowheels is an innovative wheelchair designed by a NASA Mechanical Engineer. It allows users to propel their chairs forward by pulling back on the wheels. This shifts the muscles being used from weaker ones in your arms to stronger ones in your upper back and shoulders. It also requires a lot less force to move the chair, resulting in less injuries and strain on the user over time.
  4. Omeo Technology
This power wheelchair was designed and created by Kevin, a product design engineer, to increase the mobility of his friend Marcus. Kevin and Marcus both enjoy archery, but Marcus sometimes struggled navigating his chair through the terrain of local forests, where their range was. As a solution, the Omeo chair was born, which utilizes self-balancing technology to keep a user level in their seat regardless of the surfaces they travel over.
  5. Liftkar PT
The Liftkar PT, sold by Mobility Lifter, LLC, is a transportable battery-powered device that can easily transport wheelchairs up stairs. There are three different models to accommodate regular or narrow staircases as well as users who can and cannot transfer from their chair into the device.
  6. Loro
This device has many integrated features that connects to an app which allows a user to better communicate with others. It attaches to your wheelchair and utilizes a 360* camera, laser pointer, flashlight, and audio system to identify objects or people in order to interact and communicate with them.
  7. Access Trax
For those who love the beach, this mobility device is a great solution. These portable, lightweight panels easily clip together to form a pathway that allows for wheelchairs to easily navigate tricky surfaces such as sand, grass, and dirt.
  8. Bed Phrame
The Bed Phrame is a portable device that allows wheelchair users to safely access high mattresses in hotel rooms. The lifts is placed next to a bed and allows a wheelchair seat to be raised to the height of the mattress, which is often otherwise too high for people to get into. Despite hotel rooms being labeled as accessible, they often fall short of having features that are truly able to be used by all people. This device allows you to travel without having to worry if you can actually use the bed they’ll have.
  9. WHILL
Through the two models offered, the WHILL provides users with a Personal Electric Vehicle. They have an all-wheel drive system with an incredible range, allowing people to travel between locations effortlessly. They recently trialed the WHILL Airport Mobility Service, which brings these Personal EVs to the use of customers throughout airports.
  10. AdvenChair
This all-terrain manual chair brings mobility to users across rough terrains previously dangerous to travel across. The chair is equipped with adjustable handlebars and hand brakes granting it the stability and durability of a mountain bike. It’s most unique feature however is its ability to transform from a more traditional wheelchair to its all-terrain mode, which is lead by a fifth, 20-inch front wheel with shock absorption.
