MobilityWorks customer Steve Herbst was one of the three 2013 NMEDA Local Hero contest winners.
Steve received the keys to his new Honda Odyssey with VMI Northstar Conversion, at a special event held at the MobilityWorks of Chicago’s Villa Park location on August, 7th 2013.
Steve was paralyzed after being tackled in 1980 while playing football at Palatine High School. He severed his spinal cord at the C5/6 level and became a quadriplegic.
He is a founding member of the Gridiron Alliance, a not for profit organization seeking to improve the lives of catastrophically injured youth athletes.
National Mobility Awareness Month is when we encourage people with disabilities to embody the spirit of Life Moving Forward by raising awareness of the mobility solutions available in your community. The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association and MobilityWorks are taking part in celebrating the upcoming National Mobility Awareness Month.
Local Heroes can be Defined as People who Volunteer,
Educate, Advocate, Achieve, and Persevere.
Whether you are living with a disability or have dedicated your time to helping someone who is, we want to hear what makes them a Local Hero.
Please submit either a two minute video OR a picture of the Local Hero AND a story with using 400 words or less. Stories will be shared and voted on.
